I’m proud to announce the completion of my consulting firm’s Policy Brief with in depth topic analysis and policy recommendations regarding Main Street Moves in Ventura, California.
If you’re unfamiliar with the situation, the City of Ventura has had a portion of Main Street in the downtown region closed since the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic. This, however, has faced many challenges, with the most recent being objections from the property owners in the region, as well as potential litigation that could cost taxpayers over $250M.
Still yet, people remain staunchly divided on the issue. Due to that and other factors, including looking for clarification on countering claims and a substantial amount of misinformation floating around social media, we decided to take on this “pet project” to determine what is going on, and how Ventura should move forward.
Of course the findings and recommendations may not make everyone happy. People are firmly in one of two camps: keep it closed, open it up. Most people seem to be uninterested in some sort of in between compromise, and the polarization on this issue is strikingly close to 50/50. Nevertheless, this Policy Brief discusses at length the complicating factors and attempts to offer an evidence-based solution that will secure some wins for each side.
